How long has the poison ivy been there?

Did you know that you can tell the age of poison ivy by its color?

 

 

 

This year’s growth is still bright green.

 

 

 

In a few years, it will darken and look like this plant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The older the plant, the deeper the root. The deeper the root, the darker and bigger the plant.

This vine has been there for a long, long time. It will have a deep, deep root. (If I was foolhardy enough to go in there, I would have used something for scale. The leaves on this vine were the size of my hand.)
