A Year’s Worth of Culturally Significant Dates
A guest post by Dennis Fischman
Erin Okuno is the Chief Writer at the Fakequity blog. “Fakequity” because you can’t just give lip service to racial equity. You have to walk the walk.
To that end, here is her blog post about how it feels to have your culturally significant holidays ignored, plus a list of important dates to remember in 2019.
Erin doesn’t get everything right. I notice that she includes Chanukah, one minor Jewish holiday, and skips Purim, another of equal weight. She properly recognizes Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur but omits Sukkot and Simchat Torah, which are also important parts of the “holiday season” for Jews.
Still, this is a really good place to start thinking about being an ally to people who are usually ignored.
